Any skinning done for a life-sized small mammal
mount should be done by the taxidermist. This is to avoid irreparable
mistakes, especially to the eyes and ears.
It is best to either take the animal to the
taxidermy shop immediately, or freeze it in a bag. Before placing the
animal in the freezer, allow it's body temperature to cool somewhat by
placing it in an area that is cool and dry, and out of sunlight. After
about 30 minutes, place the animal in a bag and put it in the freezer.
To prevent damage to the skin such as freezer
burn, put it in two trash bags and tie it closed.
